Diverse Pathways

Our Class of 2020 know a thing or two about finding their way through an unprecedented time in history and making headlines for their indisputable successes. The College has a long tradition of embracing diverse learning styles, unique thinkers, leaders in the making, and celebrating outstanding success stories. Our commitment to finding the right pathway for each student has proven to be a winning blueprint.

“Our College’s steadfast commitment to remaining a non-academically selective school and to offering outstanding opportunities to let each student shine, has paid incredible dividends over many years. MLC consistently ranks in the top five schools in the State and educates young women who have achieved at the highest levels, including the 2020 Beazley Medal winner. But, it’s our unique approach to a modern education that matters most,” says Principal Dr Marie Perry.

A few of our 2020 graduates returned to MLC to share their unique journeys with us, from their time at MLC to exploring their future pathways. Find out about these Collegians below and watch the video to hear their stories.

Evelyn and Shannon were two of just 14 people in the State to achieve the perfect WACE score of 99.95. The girls feature in Episode One, Series Five of our MLC Girls on Fire podcast where they talk about how their teachers encouraged them to balance academic success with music, creative arts and fun, enabling them to finish their secondary education with an exceptional outcome.

The girls describe how MLC gave them a chance to shine in their own unique way.

Evelyn now hopes to work in Medical Research and will study Biomedicine in 2021. Aside from achieving a perfect WACE score, her final Year 12 artwork (a unique sculpture piece) was accepted into the Pulse Perspectives 2021 showcase at the Art Gallery of Western Australia.

With plenty of scholarship offers coming her way, Shannon’s next step will be studying a Bachelor of Philosophy with the hope of studying Medicine.

Following a contemporary trend of taking alternative pathways to university, another of our 2020 Collegians, Jemma, graduated from MLC with a Certificate IV in Workplace Health and Safety  a vocational education and training qualification. After developing great resilience during the unprecedented year in 2020, Jemma will commence a Bachelor of Commerce degree in 2021 and aspires to work in the mining sector in the future.

After only recently discovering her interest in art, graduate Anooja’s art piece was also selected for the 2021 Pulse Perspectives showcase. She credits her teachers for recognising her potential and encouraging her to pursue art into Year 12. Anooja plans to study a Bachelor of Environmental Design and move to an Industrial Design degree in the future.

Boarding student Anoushka received the support of her Boarding tutors throughout her journey and says she was encouraged to take charge of her own destiny at MLC. She farewelled her second home on campus last year to study a Bachelor of Arts in 2021 with hopes to study Law post grad.

Talented musician Oriana is no stranger to the stage having performed in productions and performances throughout her MLC journey, which began in Year 4. Her favourite subjects have always been humanities and performing arts, and she will follow her passions to university as she studies a Bachelor of Music in Classical and Vocal Performance at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music.

Maya from the Class of 2020, was a student in MLC’s unique Inclusive Learning Centre. Now proudly employed in the hospitality industry at Lawley’s commercial kitchen, Maya works really hard, preparing assembling and decorating hundreds of delicious treats every day. Her teachers and parents are so proud of her work ethic and dedication to her tasks.

At MLC, every girl is encouraged to find her unique passion and pursue it at school and beyond. Read about our Class of 2020 results here and meet some of the Class of 2020 members below.
